Acceptable Use & Content Licence
What you may and may not do with the app, and the limited permission you give BuddyPath over what you post.
This document does two jobs: it sets the rules for using the BuddyPath app, and it sets out the limited permission you give us over what you post. It forms part of the Terms of Service.
1. Your licence to use BuddyPath
BuddyPath is a hosted service, not software you install. We grant you a personal, limited, revocable, non-exclusive, non-transferable right to use it for its intended purpose while your account is in good standing. The app, its design, and its content (other than user content) remain ours.
2. What you may not do
- scrape, crawl, bulk-download, or systematically copy profiles, reviews or any other part of the service, by hand or by automation;
- reverse engineer, decompile, or try to derive our source code, models, prompts, or matching logic;
- get around any access control, rate limit, paywall, listing gate, or security measure, or probe the service for weaknesses without our written permission;
- resell, sublicense, or make the service available to anyone outside your own account;
- use the service to build a competing product, or to train a machine learning model on content taken from it;
- upload malware, or interfere with the service’s operation or with other people’s use of it.
3. How to behave
Do not post, send, or say anything that:
- harasses, threatens, bullies, or incites harm against anyone;
- is hateful towards people because of race, ethnicity, religion, disability, sex, gender identity, or sexual orientation;
- is sexual content involving minors, non-consensual sexual content, or content sexualising anyone without their agreement;
- impersonates another person, or claims qualifications, licences, certifications or employment you do not hold. Mentors: your profile is how people decide whether to trust you with something that matters, so claims on it must be true;
- promotes illegal activity, or solicits help obtaining illegal goods or services;
- you do not have the right to post, including someone else’s copyright work, confidential material, or another person’s private information;
- is spam, or an attempt to move people off-platform to avoid fees or our safety rules.
Sessions are between people, often about difficult things. Treat what you hear as private. Do not record a call unless everyone in it has agreed.
4. AI features
Parts of BuddyPath are AI: the intake interviewer, the buddy assistant, and the drafting of profile text. What they produce can be wrong or incomplete. Do not rely on it as professional advice, do not present it as fact about yourself without checking it, and do not put other people’s confidential information into it.
5. Your content stays yours
You keep ownership of everything you upload or write. You give us a licence to it only so far as we need to run the service, and this section is deliberately narrow.
What you permit. A non-exclusive, worldwide, royalty-free licence to host, store, back up, transmit, re-encode and display your content in order to:
- operate BuddyPath and show your content to the people it is meant for;
- display a public profile at your profile link while your profile is public; and
- show a listed mentor’s name, photo, headline, tags, rate, average rating and completed-session count on BuddyPath’s own public marketing website.
Re-encoding is included because it is what actually happens: uploaded video is converted so it plays in a browser, which can resize it, shorten it to our duration limit, and take a still frame for a preview image. Your words are not changed.
What you do not permit. This licence does not cover advertising, paid promotion, social media posts, press, or any use outside BuddyPath and its own marketing site. It does not let us licence your content to anyone else. For anything beyond the list above we ask you separately and you can say no — video testimonials, for example, have their own written consent that names precisely what is published, and can be withdrawn at any time.
Ending it. The licence ends when you delete the content or close your account, except that we may keep backup copies for a limited period, and we cannot recall copies other people already downloaded.
6. Feedback
If you send us suggestions about the product, we can use them freely and without owing you anything. Please do not send us anything confidential as feedback.
7. Enforcement
We may remove content, limit features, or suspend or close an account that breaks these rules, and we will do so immediately where someone’s safety is at stake. Repeated copyright infringement is handled under the Copyright & DMCA Policy.
